EPL Ferguson, Mourinho tried to sign him – Carragher picks best player among Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes. Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has picked the best player between former England internationals, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.
Carragher believes Gerrard is the best player ahead of Lampard and Scholes, insisting that both Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho both tried to sign the former Aston Villa manager during his time as a professional footballer.
Speaking on who is the best player among the trio, Carragher said on The Peter Crouch Podcast:
“It is not even close is it? People think I don’t like Frank Lampard and I don’t like Paul Scholes. You know, when this debate comes up, and I go, ‘They were amazing players, but it is not even a debate, it is not even close.
“I will tell you what kills the debate. Alex Ferguson tried to sign him [Gerrard] and so did Jose Mourinho. And they had Scholes and Lampard.”
