Alan Shearer wasn’t impressed with Antony’s performance in Manchester United’s recent 0-0 draw against Liverpool, criticizing the player’s predictability on the field. Despite Liverpool’s dominance with 34 shots compared to United’s six, neither side managed to score.
Shearer pointed out Antony’s playing pattern, saying, “On the right hand side you’ve got Antony, he would do my nut in playing with him because you know 99.9 per cent of the time he’s coming inside on that left foot. Not only do the defenders know, so they can then set themselves.”
He highlighted that Antony’s tendency to favor his left foot makes it easier for defenders to anticipate his moves, making it challenging for forwards to capitalize on those situations.
Despite Antony’s hefty £85 million price tag when he joined from Ajax, his performance at Manchester United has been questioned. With only eight goals and three assists in 62 appearances, there’s a growing sense that he hasn’t met the expectations since his arrival.
