Transfer Todd Boehly blocks Chelsea star from leaving Stamford Bridge for EPL rivals. Chelsea co-owner, Todd Boehly has personally spoken to midfielder Mason Mount in a bid to persuade him to remain at Stamford Bridge next season, amid reports linking the England international to Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Mount has 15 months to run on his deal with Chelsea but he has rejected the Blues’ last two proposals over an extension.
The out-of-favour player has attracted interest from Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle and Bayern Munich but it is Liverpool that leads the race for his signature.
Contract talks are planned in the summer but the longer Chelsea leaves the issue without a resolution, the more likely it is that Mount will accelerate talks with Liverpool.
With that in mind, the Athletic is now reporting that Boehly has intervened to personally assure Mount that the Stamford Bridge club wants to keep him.
The report added that the conversation between the pair occurred last Friday following Chelsea’s exit from the Champions League and is seen as a ‘positive’ development by those within the club, as well as Mount’s representatives.
