CAF Confederation Cup Why Rivers United lost to Young Africans – Eguma

Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma has attributed his team’s defeat to Tanzanian champions, the Young Africans, to the team’s poor marksmanship.

The Port Harcourt club face a daunting task in their bid to secure a place in the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after they went down to a 2-0 home defeat against their opponent in Uyo on Sunday.

Eguma’s side will have to score three goals without conceding in the second leg this weekend at the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam to scale through.

The tactician said his team lost to the Citizen because of their failure to convert the chances they created in the game.

The former Olympic Eagles assistant coach also blamed the absence of some of his key players for the defeat.

“I will say it was a bad day for us. We didn’t get our acts right. We had some scoring chances in the first half but we couldn’t convert until the opponents scored in the second half and they came out to play. They equally got the second from a counter,” Eguma told reporters after the game.

“I believe we have learnt our lessons and some of our key players that were missing would have made some difference for us.”
