When the midfielder first moved to Madrid at the age of 16, he was unable to converse in Spanish, but fortunately, other players, like Ronaldo, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos, could speak English.
The 24-year-old stated in a statement to The Players’ Tribune: “When I step into their locker room, all I can think about is how these guys will treat me. This small boy who had no knowledge of Spanish.
But everyone was incredibly nice, and Ronaldo, Modric, and Kroos—who all knew English—took extra special care of me at first.
