EPL Chelsea aren’t the same without one player – Glenn Hoddle. Legendary Chelsea coach Glenn Hoddle has acknowledged that Thiago Silva’s absence has changed the Blues’ identity.
After being substituted in the opening period of Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday, Silva was facing a protracted injury layoff.
Although Chelsea manager Graham Potter does not yet know the full degree of Silva’s injury, he has backup alternatives in Kalidou Koulibaly, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, and Wesley Fofana.
Hoddle, meanwhile, is leery of Chelsea, who have gone six games without a victory with Silva out of the starting lineup.
In and around the 18-yard box, they lack that punch, Hoddle said to Premier League Productions after the game.
They played a decent first 10 to 15 minutes before emerging as the superior team.
“To me, they don’t appear like the same squad without their older statesman, Thiago Silva.”
