EPL Carragher slams Chelsea owner Boehly over bizarre decision

EPL Carragher slams Chelsea owner Boehly over bizarre decision. Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player, has criticized Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, for making a “bizarre” choice this year.

Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire, sold Chelsea to a group led by Boehly in the summer.

The American fired Thomas Tuchel as manager and hired Graham Potter in his place after spending more than £275 million on players.

Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia were among those he permitted to depart the West London club.

Graham Potter’s affiliation with Chelsea is a concern, Carragher said, according to The Overlap.

“What I mean by this is that the history of Chelsea tells you that this doesn’t happen when we talk about Erik Ten Hag and Mikel Arteta coming in, having time to implement his plans, and receiving transfer windows to bring players out.

“Will the new owner experience it? It is difficult to understand that when he [Todd Boehly] fired a manager just a few weeks into the season, especially one who had led the team to a Champions League victory.

“I’ve always felt it was strange to fire Thomas Tuchel.

“I’m thrilled for Graham Potter and to have an English manager in such a significant position, but he’s never been in that situation before, managing a major team and managing in the Champions League.

“He has effectively turned things around in the Champions League and advanced them.

In his mind, he believes he has had a successful start at Chelsea, but the last two or three games have gone in the opposite direction, and it almost feels as though everything has come crashing down on him.

“You can’t believe what you are witnessing when you look at where Chelsea was last season and the £275 million that was spent on the team this summer.

“After spending that much money, their final product was so much poorer [than last season] versus Brighton and Arsenal. It feels weird.”
