Owen claims that Foden, who has been dubbed the finest player in the England team traveling to Qatar in 2022, should receive the individual award if any England player is to win it.
Leaving Foden on the bench during England’s 0-0 draw with the USA in their second group match earned England manager Gareth Southgate a lot of criticism.
And Owen tweeted, “Amazed that we’ve already used 14 players and our best player is still on the bench.”
For the match against Wales, Southgate substituted Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and Jordan Henderson in place of his starting lineup.
Foden scored one of England’s two goals in their 2-0 victory against their next-door neighbors.
In a statement to SuperSport, Owen stated the following about the Manchester City forward: “I have said it before, but Foden is one of our most gifted players.
He’s one of the top players competing in this event, and I believe Foden will represent England and win the Ballon d’Or.
In the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday, Senegal, the top national team in Africa, will play England.
