Gareth Bale rescues draw for Wales in World Cup opener vs USA. Gareth Bale rescued a 1-1 draw for Wales in their World Cup opener against USA on Monday evening.

The United States started the match on the front foot but had to wait until the 36th minute to get in front as Timothy Weah raced on to Christian Pulisic’s pass and finished low past Wayne Hennessey.

Wales were much improved in the second half but it needed a rash challenge from Walker Zimmerman for USA to concede a penalty, which Bale smashed past Matt Turner.

USA will now play England in their second game in Group B on Friday, while Wales will face Iran.
