EPL Mourinho mocks Chelsea over €100m transfer fee for Mudryk. Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, has taken a shot at Chelsea’s €100 million (£88.5 million) purchase of Mykhailo Mudryk.
Arsenal’s attempt to recruit Mudryk was thwarted when the Blues reached a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk to pay £62 million upfront and a further £26.5 million in add-ons.
Under new co-owner Todd Boehly, Chelsea has already invested around £400 million.
During their 2-0 victory over Fiorentina, Mourinho substituted Marash Kumbulla for the banned Roger Ibanez and declared: “We need to find a solution, we can’t just acquire Mudryk for €100m!”
“I worked in clubs where there was literally no end to the money. These days, there are more and more clubs that meet that description, but that is not our description. We put forth a lot of effort and work within the limitations of our abilities.
Roman Abramovich, the previous owner of Chelsea who was eager to spend exorbitant transfer prices for players, hired Mourinho to coach Chelsea for two stints.
