EPL: Football has changed – Joao Felix reacts to Enzo Fernandez’s price tag Joao Felix responded to Chelsea paying a record sum to acquire Enzo Fernandez from Benfica on the day of the winter transfer deadline.
The £106 million paid to lure the Argentine World Cup champion to Stamford Bridge was defended by the Portuguese, who noted that paying such an astronomical sum for a player is now the norm.
In order to sign the highly regarded central midfielder from Argentina and free Jorginho to join Arsenal, Chelsea broke the British transfer record.
When questioned if he was shocked by the price tag, Felix said that the midfielder’s quality justified it.
He said to AS, “It is getting more and more common for amounts like this to be spent.
“Football has transformed, and payments of £80 million, £90 million, £100 million, or £110 million will be typical.
He is a young player who is really excellent, therefore he earns that assessment.
