The highly anticipated CAF Awards 2023 is set to take place at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, today.
The event will witness intense competition, with all eyes on Nigerian players Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala, who are contenders for the ultimate prizes in the men’s and women’s categories.
Victor Osimhen is vying for the Men’s Player of the Year, competing against Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah. Osimhen, aiming to be the first Nigerian since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 to claim the honor, had a standout season with Napoli, contributing significantly to their Serie A title.
Asisat Oshoala, the Barcelona Femeni star, is eyeing a historic sixth Women’s Player of the Year award. A win for Oshoala would extend her record as the most decorated female player in this category. Her teammate, Chiamaka Nnadozie, is a finalist for the newly introduced Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Deborah Abiodun is also in contention for the Young Player of the Year, while the Super Falcons have their sights set on the National Team of the Year accolade. The awards ceremony promises to be a thrilling event, showcasing the best talents in African football.
