2023 AFCONQ Peseiro reflects on Super Eagles’ victory against Guinea-Bissau. José Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, believes his team was due more from their two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
On Friday of last week, the three-time African champions were defeated at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Nevertheless, Peseiro’s substitutions exacted revenge, defeating the Djurtus 1-0 on Monday evening at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau.
Around the half-hour mark, Nantes of France winger Moses Simon converted the go-ahead penalty after right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel was taken down inside the box.
Peseiro claimed that if it weren’t for the Super Eagles’ carelessness in front of goal, they may have scored more goals in both contests.
“We performed better on Friday than we did today, and we might have won 6-1 in Abuja and 5-0 here in Bissau today. Although it happens in football, Peseiro noted in his post-game interview, “sometimes you play better than your opponents but the result will suggest differently.
“At home, we had a greater advantage than today, but we couldn’t take use of our scoring opportunities.”
On Sunday, June 11, 2023, the Super Eagles will go for Sierra Leone to play their following encounter.
