Napoli’s skipper, Giovanni De Lorenzo, defended Victor Osimhen’s decision to attend the CAF Awards in Marrakech, asserting that it was justified despite the timing before their UEFA Champions League encounter against Braga.
Osimhen, who received the Men’s Player of the Year award in Morocco on Monday, swiftly returned to Naples and was included in the starting lineup for the crucial match against Braga at Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. Impressively, he netted Napoli’s second goal during the game.
De Lorenzo, speaking to Napoli Magazine, supported Osimhen’s trip, emphasizing that such acknowledgments are significant and shouldn’t cause fatigue. He underscored Osimhen’s dedication on the field and in training, highlighting the striker’s unwavering commitment and positive impact.
He added, “His return to scoring is crucial for him, and it speaks volumes about his contributions. What matters most is his performance and dedication, which have never been in doubt.”
