He lived with his uncle’s family because his parents birthed lots of children already and not financially capable of providing for him. He endured his condition while growing up while clamor for bigger dreams for the future.
He started playing football in the street of bambali, and was not able go to school because his parents could not afford to send him to school. So, he played football in the dusty streets of his little village every morning when he woke up and, in the evenings, when the sun was down.

After watching Senegal national team play in the world cup in the World Cup, and get to the quarterfinals, even beating world Champions France in the group stage, despite playing in the world cup for the first time, he was triggered to become a professional footballer. This made him take football very seriously. At first, his parents were against it, they had other plans for their son, and it did not involve football, but Sadio Mane wanted nothing else. So, they had no other option than to support their son, thereby selling their farm produce to raise money to get Sadio Mane into Generation Foot, a football academy in Dakar.

In January 2012, Sadio Mane made his professional appearance for the French club Metz as a substitute. During his first league season, he made 19 appearances.
