Dembele signed a two-year contract, ending months of ambiguity about his future and extending his five-year stint at Camp Nou.
In January, after failing to reach an agreement over a renewal, Barca advised him to find a new club. Even worse, they excluded him from the team for two games and threatened to send him to the stands for the remainder of the campaign if he persisted in staying without agreeing to a new contract.

After being initially booed by fans upon his return, Dembele, 25, went on to play a significant role in Barca’s ascent from ninth to second in LaLiga, finishing the season with a league-high 13 assists.
Although Dembele, who officially became a free agent last month, had been linked to both PSG and Chelsea, sources close to the player have always indicated that Dembele preferred to remain at Barcelona.
Despite this, Mateu Alemany, Barca’s sporting director, and Moussa Sissoko, Dembele’s agent, had previously been unable to come to an agreement on the conditions of a new contract.
However, a breakthrough occurred recently, and Dembele has now decided to dedicate the next two years of his life to Barca.
Sources at Barcelona are still adamant that signing Dembele, who cost €105 million to acquire from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, will not affect their pursuit of Raphinha of Leeds United.
Barca announced on Wednesday that a “agreement in principle” had been reached with Leeds about the deal.
Any new arrivals at Camp Nou are still contingent on Barca selling an additional 15% of their domestic broadcast rights. To cover losses over the 2021–22 campaign, they sold 10% to international investment group Sixth Street on Thursday for more than €200 million.
