Jose Peseiro explains why Ndidi did not train with the group ahead of AFCON 2023 qualifier vs Guinea-Bissau

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has explained why Wilfred Ndidi did not participate in the first training session ahead of the AFCON 2023 qualifier doubleheader against Guinea-Bissau.

Ndidi is one of 13 players who have resumed in the Super Eagles camp in Abuja, but he did not take part in today’s training session, and the man in charge, Jose Peseiro, explains why.

Why Ndidi did not train

Jose Peseiro spoke after today’s Super Eagles training, where he explained that his coaching crew maintains a relationship with the club medical staff and coaches of the Super Eagles players.

He revealed that, via this relationship, they were duly informed that it was best for Ndidi—who was in action for Leicester only two days ago, in the 1-1 draw with Brentford—to be rested, for him to be in peak physical condition.

Ndidi has struggled with injuries and fitness recently. He missed 17 games for Leicester last season due to injuries, according to TransferMarkt, and this season, he has only started 12 of the 27 league games Leicester have played.

Players in the Super Eagles camp

Wilfred Ndidi was among 10 members who joined the Super Eagles camp, behind Everton’s Alex Iwobi, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, and Hoffenheim’s Kevin Akpoguma, who were the early birds.

Ndidi’s Leicester teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho, is also in the camp. Southampton’s Joe Aribo and West Brom’s Semi Ajayi have also arrived.
