Ex England Captain David Beckham Spotted in Qatar As Three Lions Devour Iran in Group B Opener. Erstwhile England captain David Beckham was in attendance at the Khalifa International Stadium as the Three Lions smashed Iran in their Group B opener on Monday, November 21.

Beckham, who played for Manchester United and Real Madrid, was spotted in the stands as he continues to undertake his ambassadorial role in the Middle East nation for the Mundial.

In photos posted on Twitter, seen by Sports Brief, the 47-year-old, who sported a smart black suit, watched the game keenly as Gareth Southgate’s charges dismantled Iran to begin their World Cup campaign on a flying note.

Beckham’s presence served as a huge morale booster for the Three Lions secured a scintillating 6-2 victory over Iran on Day Two of the biggest football festival in Qatar.

The comprehensive result was a welcome step in the right direction for England, who arrived in Qatar on a six-match winless run, The Athletic reports.

Why is Beckham in Qatar?

David Beckham is one of the big-name ambassadors for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the first-ever Mundial held in the Middle East.

The former Man United and Real Madrid midfielder has been increasingly criticised by LGBT+ and human rights for his involvement in the competition.

However, Beckham has defended his role as an ambassador for Qatar saying the World Cup will be a platform for ‘progress, inclusivity and tolerance,’ Mirror reports.

England put six past Iran

Earlier, Thecityforbes reported that England made a scintillating start to their World Cup campaign as Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham inspired a 6-2 rout of outclassed Iran in Monday’s Group B opener in Doha.

Saka and Bellingham were England’s driving forces with dynamic displays that underlined their emergence as two of the game’s brightest young stars.

Bellingham, 19, shattered Iran’s hopes of frustrating England when he rose to head his maiden senior international goal in the first half.
