Minister unveils plan for audit, rigorous scrutiny of NNPCL

“The Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Olawale Edun, has indicated an impending audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Despite previous recommendations by two former Finance Ministers for such an audit, no action was taken.

Emphasizing the critical need for a thorough examination, the minister underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring robust revenue inflows from the company. Speaking at the unveiling of the latest World Bank Nigeria Development Update in Abuja, Edun expressed the intention for earnest scrutiny of NNPCL’s accounts.

He stated, ‘There will be thorough scrutiny, and NNPCL is expected to prepare for it. We are keen on bolstering government revenue from NNPC and all other revenue agencies.’

Highlighting previous declarations by former Finance Ministers, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, regarding the scrutiny of NNPCL’s accounts, Edun noted the absence of any public report on the conducted audits.”
