The Niger State House of Assembly, via its Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has urged the 25 councils to prioritize projects directly benefiting the populace.
Chairing the House Standing Committee on LG, Dr. Bello Alhaji Bako emphasized this call during the committee’s oversight visit to the state’s local governments. He stressed that the visit aimed to ensure compliance with local government appropriation laws, not to conduct a witch-hunt.
Bako appealed to council chairmen to focus on projects fostering socio-economic development within their communities.
The oversight visit covered various Council Areas in Zone C, including Mashegu, Magama, Rijau, Mariga, and Kontagora. The Committee scrutinized net allocations, internal revenue generation, project execution, due process compliance, contractor documentation, and council meeting minutes.
The visited LG chairmen appreciated the committee’s visit, assuring full cooperation for the betterment of the councils’ socio-economic landscape.
Comprising members such as Engr. Mohammed Alhaji Haruna, Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, Murtala Adamu Badaru, Mohammed Isah Etsugaie, Alhassan Isah, and Mohammed Garba, the Committee remains dedicated to fostering development in the region.
