Latifat AbdulYekeen, a housewife in Kwara State’s Centre-Igboro Area Court, seeks a divorce due to her husband AbdulSalam’s alleged refusal to seek employment.
In her petition, AbdulYekeen expressed frustration over her husband’s reluctance to work despite attempts by her father to secure employment opportunities for him. She cited his preference for quick-money contracts, leading to financial strain, inadequate nourishment, and their physical appearance suffering as a result.
She left their home four months ago, receiving no inquiries about her well-being, prompting her plea for custody of their child and separation.
Presiding judge Hammad Ajumobi acknowledged a person’s right to choose work preferences but urged understanding between spouses. The respondent, AbdulSalam, sent a letter citing an accident preventing his attendance at the court session.
The case is adjourned until January 9, 2024, for further proceedings.
This legal dispute reflects the challenges faced within the marriage, signaling the need for resolution through legal processes.
