INEC reportedly rejects guber results from Abia, Enugu, resumes collation Wednesday. According to reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, disqualified the results of the governorship elections in the states of Enugu and Abia because they did not match the number of registered voters.
Recall that the collation of the Enugu and Abia gubernatorial election results had been halted by the electoral commission.
Result collation in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State was reportedly disrupted, while candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) said there were abnormalities in the collation of results from the Nkanu East and Nsukka LGs of Enugu State.
In a statement released on Sunday, the commission said that it will evaluate the results with the local administrations in the two states that were impacted.
But, DAILY POST has reliable information that the commission had rejected the purportedly inflated findings and urged that the proper actions be taken after carefully reviewing the exercise.
The outcome will shortly be made public. Results from Enugu and Abia have already been reviewed, the source added.
According to the source, the panel also mandated a review of the Enugu State gubernatorial election results from last Saturday.
With the postponement of the release of the results of the governor’s election, tension has increased in both the Abia and Enugu States.
There is a possibility that the Abia State governorship election results collation, which has been put on hold, may begin again at the Collation Center at INEC’s Umuahia headquarters by 4 p.m. today (Wednesday).
The development was verified to Vanguard on Wednesday by Ms. Rebecca Jim, Head of Voter Education and Publicity.
