INEC chair, Yakubu must go – Melaye insists

INEC chair, Yakubu must go – Melaye insists. Senator Dino Melaye, one of the spokespersons for the Atiku, Okowa Presidential Campaign Committee, has stressed that Mahmud Yakubu, the INEC chairman, must step down.

On Saturday, the former congressman made the demand in a post on his Twitter account.

Melaye’s appeal comes amid Yakubu’s warning to file a lawsuit over the claim that he manipulated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential election.

Recall that the party had demanded that the Department of State Services, DSS, and the police look into allegations of election results tampering against the INEC chairman.

The Election Act of 2022’s requirements were flagrantly violated, and there was illegal manipulation and altering of election results, according to the PDP, which claimed that the call came after additional investigation.

The PDP said that INEC thwarted Nigerians’ desire to elect a president and national assembly on February 25.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, Yakubu’s press secretary, disagreed and said that the PDP should present evidence in court to back up its accusations.

He questioned why the party, which further maintains that the electoral commission does not rig elections, did not present proof to support the baseless claims.

Senator Melaye urged that Yakubu must resign despite his protestations, asserting that he “superintended over a criminal business yahoo yahoo INEC.”

Prof. Mahmud Yakubu needs to step down. Such criminal brazenness and impunity debase the rule of law and belittle the referee who scored a goal in the game. Mahmud needs to leave, he tweeted.
