I’m human, I serve God – Spyro defends church performance

Nigerian artist Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, responded to criticism following his performance at Harvesters International Gospel Centre’s Christmas carol service in Lagos.

Spyro faced backlash for his rendition of “Only Fine Girl” during a drama presentation at the service. In a post on his official X account, he addressed the controversy, affirming his right to worship like any other member despite being a celebrity.

Setting the record straight, Spyro clarified his long-standing membership of over seven years at Harvesters, where he actively serves in two departments. He explained that the drama performance was part of the church’s annual carol service called Fantasia, which was open to everyone with free tickets.

Asserting his humanity and commitment as a Christian, Spyro emphasized his involvement in a genuine church community, urging understanding regarding his participation in the service.
