A suspected electrical explosion tragically resulted in the loss of six lives in Kabong Central Community, a suburb within Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This incident occurred around 2 am on a Saturday, also leaving two individuals in critical condition.
The explosion at a transformer triggered a fire that quickly spread within the vicinity, causing extensive panic and fear among the residents, according to a source within the community.
The explosion had devastating consequences, including the destruction of shops and estimated financial losses in the millions of naira.
When reached for comment, DSP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident to The City Forbes. He stated, “Yes, we are aware of the incident in Kabong Central, which resulted in the unfortunate loss of six lives and left two individuals critically injured.
One of the injured persons is currently receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, while the other is being treated at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.”
Alabo continued, “As I speak to you, I have visited the family of the deceased on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Julius Alawari, to offer our condolences.”
He further noted, “Preliminary reports suggest that the fire incident was caused by an electrical explosion in the area. However, I cannot definitively state the exact cause at this point, as an investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances that led to the fire incident.”
