Tribunal rejects PDP, LP’s request for live broadcast of court proceedings

Justice Haruna Tsammani, Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Court, has rejected the application for live broadcasting of the court proceedings.

The Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party had requested televised hearings for their petitions against President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. On May 8, 2023, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, filed an application seeking daily televised court proceedings for the case.

Similarly, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, also requested live coverage of the court proceedings. However, on May 22, 2023, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja dismissed their request, stating it lacked merit.
