Nigeria Customs Service commences Nationwide Promotion Exams for Officers

The Nigerian Army has initiated a two-week promotion examination for 354 officers, aiming to fill existing vacancies in the rank of Army Warrant Officer (AWO). Major General Yakubu Yahaya, the Chief of Personnel Management (Army), addressed the candidates at the Ihejirika Auditorium in Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.

During his address, Major General Yahaya emphasized the importance of conducting the examination without resorting to performance-enhancing drugs. He also discouraged the belief that having a godfather is necessary for promotion to the rank of AWO, emphasizing that the exercise should not be approached as a do-or-die affair.

He stated, “Let me congratulate each and every one of you, the candidates, for reaching this stage in your career and for your nomination to be part of the group of Master Warrant Officers being considered for promotion to the rank of AWO, which is the highest rank achievable in the enlisted cadre of the Nigerian Army. This underscores the need for each and every one of you to do your utmost best to earn the promotion.”

The examination process involves physical and medical evaluations to determine candidates’ fitness for the selection process. Other areas covered in the examination include weapon handling, current affairs, and general service knowledge, which will involve a combination of physical activities, written tests, and oral interviews.

Candidates may also undergo training in drill or basic computer knowledge, depending on their specific roles as general duties personnel or clerks.

Major General Yahaya stressed the importance of maintaining discipline throughout the examination and encouraged candidates to avoid engaging in any unscrupulous activities, reminding them that it is not a life-or-death competition. He also advised candidates to prioritize their personal health and abstain from using performance-enhancing drugs during the physical fitness test.

In summary, the Nigerian Army has commenced a promotion examination for 354 officers to fill vacancies in the rank of Army Warrant Officer. Major General Yahaya, the Chief of Personnel Management (Army), emphasized the importance of conducting the examination with integrity and without resorting to performance-enhancing drugs. He also discouraged the belief that having a godfather is necessary for promotion and urged candidates to approach the examination with discipline and professionalism.
