The Nigeria Police Force, zone six command in Calabar, took action following a petition from TSL Company, leading to the arrest of Achugo Kenneth Onyebuchi, a 41-year-old man from Ogoda community in Ahoada LGA, Rivers State.
Allegations suggest that Onyebuchi interfered with an on-board tracking device (OBC), disrupting the company’s ability to monitor the real-time location of a truck. This truck, bearing Registration No. APP 840 XW and loaded with 800 bags of cement worth ₦33,469,930.00, was reported missing from Calabar on January 6, 2022, en route to Owerri, Imo State, for delivery.
Police Public Relations Officer for zone six, Nelson Okpabi, disclosed that based on credible information, detectives apprehended Onyebuchi residing in Calabar on December 1, 2023, at Flat B’, Ikot Nkebre Layout, 8′ Miles.
During interrogation, Onyebuchi confessed to diverting the truck, handing it over to a friend named Mr. Hamilton in Akwa Ibom without seeking approval from the company. He admitted to receiving a call later, informing him that customs officials in Edo State had intercepted the truck, discovering contraband rice.
Subsequently, Onyebuchi embarked on other jobs in Port Harcourt and Enugu, where law enforcement eventually arrested him. He expressed regret for not disclosing the truck’s location to the company since January 6, 2022, and attributed the tampering of the tracking device to Hamilton.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, zone six, Jonathan Towuru, commended the detectives’ efforts, emphasizing that criminals cannot evade justice regardless of time passed. This arrest underscores the commitment to pursuing and apprehending lawbreakers.
