EFCC rearraigns social media influencer over alleged N7.9m fraud. Adedamola Adewale, also known online as Adeherself, has been re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and brought before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for an alleged N7.9 million internet scam.
Before Justice Mojisola Dada, the Commission docked the influencer on three counts: conspiracy to gain money by false pretenses, retention of proceeds of criminal activity, and attempt to get money by false pretenses.
The comedian, though, entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The defendant was initially charged before Justice Sherifat Solebo, who has now departed from the bench, and the matter has since been transferred, the EFCC’s attorney, Samuel Daji, informed the court during the hearing.
Before the defendant could be freed from detention, Daji informed the court that the matter had been reassigned and that a formal bail application from the defense was required.
“My lord, this matter was handled by Justice Solebo Sherifat before to her retirement, and when it was moved to this honorable court, I notified my learned colleague that the case would be heard on January 25. He claimed he believed it had happened the day before.
We are unsure of the whereabouts of the sureties who previously stood up for her in this issue before your lordship. It is appropriate for the defense to submit a new bail application to your lordship, he added.
The defense attorney, Kassim Molade, appealed with the court to allow his client to remain with the bond set down by Justice Solebo while he prepared a fresh bail application.
