World Cup You’re selfish – Graeme Souness slams Harry Kane. World Cup You’re selfish – Graeme Souness slams Harry Kane. England striker Harry Kane has been criticized by Premier League great Graeme Souness for being a selfish player.
This came after the Three Lions’ World Cup match on Friday ended in a 1-1 tie with the USA.
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar got off to a brilliant start for England when they defeated Iran 6-2. However, they were less spectacular when they were held to a scoreless draw by the USA in their next Group B match.
Former Liverpool player Souness claimed that the ambition of the Tottenham striker is to overtake Wayne Rooney as the most prolific goalscorer for his country.
He said that the Premier League scoring machine made the decision to remain on the field during the Three Lions’ opening match against Iran because of this.
Kane’s selfishness, Souness remarked, may have “came back to bite the squad.”
Souness told the Daily Mail, “In my opinion, Harry Kane was selfish against Iran on Monday [against Iran] – remaining on the field for 27 minutes after sustaining an ankle injury, even if England was leading 3-0.
Harry would have liked to continue playing for an additional 27 minutes if he had seen goals. He has a tendency to be selfish.
After two group games, Harry Kane, who entered Qatar as the English Premier League’s second-leading goal scorer, has failed to score.
Even though England defeated Iran 6-2 in their opening World Cup game, Harry Kane was unable to score.
