PSG appeared to be on track to take first place in their group, but Benfica’s 6-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa has forced Christophe Galtier’s team to accept second place.
Following a stunning late twist on Wednesday night, PSG may also be paired with Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last-16 draw. Both Premier League clubs finished first in their respective Groups.
Real Madrid also placed first in Group F, joining teams like Bayern Munich, Napoli, and FC Porto in the draw’s seeded pot.
Tottenham may face Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli, while Los Blancos may play teams like Liverpool, Club Bruges, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli.
However, Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund are among the unseeded clubs for the round of 16 draw.
Since teams from the same country cannot be placed together in the draw, all English Premier League clubs will avoid one another in the round of 16.
On November 7, the Champions League’s round of 16 draw will occur.
