Four adults and two children of a family were spared after Amazon’s virtual assistant informed them on Monday that there was smoke inside the house, according to a statement from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue in Maryland.
According to DC News Now, Alexa woke up the family while they were asleep at around two in the morning. The family members discovered significant smoke inside the house when they got up, but thanks to Alexa and the home’s functional smoke detectors, they were able to flee.

According to Pete Piringer, Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County, “The family followed the smoke to the adjoining garage, but when they tried to open the door to investigate, the heat and smoke repelled them. Nobody was hurt. Smoke detectors that were in good working order were also present.”

According to Piringer, the two electrical chargers that were plugged in were charging the batteries of an electric bike and an electric lawnmower.
The combustibles were too close to a heat source, according to the officials, which ultimately caused the fire. Around $175,000 in damage was thought to have occurred.
