Tony Umez, a well-known Nollywood actor, has publicly supported Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency of the Labour Party in the 2023 election.
The Nigerian actor gave justifications for the support, claiming that the Labour Party candidate has consistently made the proper statements and taken the appropriate actions in the past.
Tony stated in his interview with the BBC that if he were to cast his ballot as soon as tomorrow, he would choose Obi as president.
Some people believe they have a natural right to control Nigeria, he remarked. I have no idea how that got there. I’m not saying Peter Obi is a good person, but he is speaking the truth and acting morally.
“Rage is prevalent at the moment. Nigeria is endowed with abundant natural and human resources, but our country has lacked effective leadership, and the youth are upset with how things ended out.
There are certain candidates who have been put up that I don’t think are trustworthy enough to lead us. I really believe that you cannot contribute to the solution if you are a part of the issue.
Umez criticized the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari while denouncing what he called sit-tight control in Africa.
“There is this sit-tightism in Africa; the folks you saw when you were much younger are still the same people in leadership now. How should a government be rated? He enquired about security, transit, and education.
How would you rate the current government if you were to compare it to all of these indices? Sub-zero for me.
“Perhaps they’ve committed some crimes. But everything you do that doesn’t benefit the populace is pointless. Government officials are steadfast in their positions of power because they have nothing to fall back on.
“When you inquire about someone’s occupation, they reply that they are a politician. Is that work? This is a call to action. But that’s where these guys make their living. People steal with impunity, and our leaders lack integrity, he continued.
The Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, has received endorsement from a number of notable celebrities, including renowned Nollywood actors Kanayo O. Kanayo, Keneth Okonkwo, Okey Bakassi, Kate Henshaw, Charlyboy, Daddy Freeze, comedia Macaroni, Psquare, Phyno, Flavour, and Ruggedman, among others.
