Anti-Igbo remarks Over 6, 000 Nigerians sign petition against singer Brymo’s AFRIMA win. The petition against well-known musician and actor Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi, often known as Brymo, for his persistent anti-Igbo remarks, has garnered the support of over 6,000 Nigerians.
Nigerians were asked to join the petition against Brymo by a guy going by the name of Charles Ogundele in order to stop the musician from receiving the 2023 All Africa Music Award, AFRIMA.
The artist, who has consistently expressed his opposition to the Igbo region of the nation, came under criticism for saying that the movement for Biafra would just make an Igbo president a “pipe dream.”
The petition claims that Brymo recently posted several abusive tweets on his Twitter account towards the Nigerian Igbo group, including retweeting one that said all Igbos are idiots.
F*ck The Ndi Igbo, he said. Forget about it.
Brymo was one of several performers from several African nations that were nominated for the All Africa Music Award’s Song Writer of the Year category in November 2022.
Some Nigerians on social media have persisted in signing the petition to prevent the artist from receiving the prize while voting for the category is still open. The petition stated that Brymo would receive a clear message if he didn’t win the prize due to his “hateful statements” about Igbos.
