2023 Nigerians drag gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo for performing at PDP rally in Akwa Ibom. Popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo is now facing backlash from Nigerians on social media after appearing at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) event in Akwa Ibom State.
When the singer invaded the governorship campaign event in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday to perform as an artist, she confused many Nigerians.
The 32-year-old singer, who just wed, reportedly wowed the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, his wife, Martha, and hundreds of other party supporters in the state with her gospel songs.
She sang a number of songs, including “See the way you love me” and “Jesus, you love me too much.”
In his address following Sister Mercy’s ordination, the governor said, “Sister Mercy, this is electrifying.”
Tweeps’ reactions to the news of her participation at the event have ranged from criticism to the idea that she was being paid for the role.
Some of the Twitter comments have been included below.
@EsteemKuti: But my understanding was that she was to honor God by using the talent. What is she doing at a political event if not collecting money? She has changed into a male.
@Chrisamaechi: Abeg let her work for her money. She would want to double-charge them. The season should be free for artists to practice their craft. They resemble bus drivers and printers. She is aware that obedience is what matters most in the end.
@3xtimesalady: What does it matter to her that Udom Emmanuel at least paid her appearance fee? She presumably has good voting habits.
@Silad Chime: If Tinubu needs his table fixed, and you are a carpenter, you will bill him for the work and finish it. She has work to do. Once you’re done, you get paid and waka. Nothing is affixed. She is not required to support the PDP or APC. She can perform simultaneously for APC and PDP.
@IkennaArinze: A state demonstration has been called to back one of their own. She skipped the campaign rally. She ought to keep on if she thinks the pdp did well in Akwa Ibom.
