Breaking: Emefiele now in our custody for investigation – DSS. In a recent development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that it has taken into custody the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for the purpose of an investigation.
This confirmation comes after earlier denials from the DSS regarding his arrest. The DSS urged the public to exercise caution in their narratives regarding this development.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Emefiele from office with immediate effect, citing an ongoing investigation and planned financial sector reforms.
Emefiele was directed to hand over his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who will serve as the acting CBN governor during the investigation and reforms.
Emefiele’s suspension does not come as a surprise, as he had been a subject of criticism due to controversial policies such as the naira swap and cashless policy, which generated negative publicity for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) prior to the presidential election.
